Exciting All-Abilities Playspace
Amidst boundless anticipation, Picton Botanic Gardens All-Abilities Playspace opened to the public with a rush of local children at the official opening day ready to explore their new playspace!
Featuring two new playgrounds, catering for both toddlers and older children with high quality accessible play equipment and linked together by a suspended boardwalk featuring sensory and musical elements, which are complemented by a sandstone dry creek and nature play area intertwined amongst the newly constructed footpath network.
The main playground provides a challenging environment for 5-12 year olds featuring a custom play tower structure featuring an illuminated Waratah, slide, climbing nets, a rope bridge, swings and spinners that has been designed to fit within the character of the Botanic Gardens. The toddler playspace, designed to cater for 1-5 year olds, contains play opportunities including swings, a slide, blackboard, terraced sandstone climbing mound and see-saw elements, along with a nature play zone along the southern edge to encourage imaginative play. Shade sails, seating, lighting, fencing and softscapes completed this unique project.
Works undertaken on this project included demolition, earthworks, drainage, construction of footpath networks and installation of electrical works for lighting. New play equipment (carousel, swings, nature play area, amongst other items) was installed together with complementary softfall, dry creek with stonework, raised garden beds, turfing and seating.
We were electrified to see hundreds of community members turn out to celebrate the completion of Picton Botanical Gardens All-Abilities Playspace and its official opening, relishing in the new facilities!
