Breathtaking Harbour View Track

Middle Head Walking Track, Mosman
NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service

Bushwalkers, history buffs, and Sydney Harbour lovers — great news! The new Middle Head Walking Track is officially complete and ready to explore.

Constructed for NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, this spectacular new 3km walking trail links Georges Head to Middle Head, connecting seamlessly with the Sydney Harbour Scenic Walk in Sydney Harbour National Park. You can enjoy a continuous coastal walk with breathtaking Harbour views and a rich military history. The Walking Track starts from the Beehive Casemates, Georges Head at Mosman and ends at Officers’ Quarters, Middle Head.

With 150 years of military heritage, you can explore WWII-era gun emplacements, fortifications and defensive ditches — all carefully preserved during construction. Along the way, enjoy new stone steps, boardwalks and restored heritage features, making the walk both educational and accessible.

Our project works included creation of new sections of walking track including clearing vegetation in areas where there was no pre-existing trail, as well as excavation and use of the defensive ditches from WW2. Careful protection of significant heritage structures was required onsite including stairs, walls and the WW2 trenches. Additionally, new sandstone steps were constructed as well as new ramps, stairs, an elevated boardwalk and a carpark connection.

This stunning foreshore walking track has created an enriching recreational and educational experience for visitors whether it be for a scenic stroll or stepping back in time!
