South Coast Fun!

Hindmarsh Park, Kiama
Kiama Municipal Council

Wonderful news for South Coast families and visitors! Completed ahead of schedule and in time for the recent school holidays, Hindmarsh Park at Kiama is open for play! The upgrade included construction of a new, all-ages, all-abilities playground with shade, water and sand play areas, inclusive play elements such as trampoline, seesaw and carousel and a new set of swings with shade canopy and rubber and mulch softfall. The centrepiece play structure of the large playground features towers with rope climbing, bridges and large slide, while the smaller playground features rope and rock climbing walls and slides with basalt features to reflect Kiama's history.

But that’s not all! The Park also boasts a large new shelter with picnic tables and electric BBQs, as well as a significant upgrade to the Orry Kelly stage. Additionally, there was a footpath upgrade with picnic tables and chairs, completed by softscapes with native planting.

Our works included replacement of the old Terralong Street seating, an upgrade of the Collins Street footpath, demolition of old play equipment and brick paving, earthworks, drainage and electrical works. Works on the Orry Kelly Stage included replacement of the old canopy, construction of new side stairs and terraces at the front, together with an upgraded accessible ramp at the rear and installation of the upgraded electrical system.

This Stage 1 Upgrade completed for Kiama Municipal Council, funded by the State Government’s NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program, aimed to deliver a significant open space play and leisure facility of regional importance with improved accessibility and fresh appeal to this already popular open space in the centre of Kiama.

On Monday 21 October, Mayor Cameron McDonald, Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Transport and Roads Anna Watson, and Member for Kiama Gareth Ward joined local primary school students to cut the ribbon on this amazing $4.5 million project. Kiama Council Mayor thanked the NSW Government for funding this project, creating a beautiful, inclusive space for families and the community to enjoy for decades. The Council extended its' gratitiude to Growth Civil Landscapes for their works on the landscaping and playground installation.

Come and explore the new features that make this beloved Park even more inviting for everyone!
