National Skills Week 2025
It is National Skills Week, the perfect time to introduce Owen, our 2nd year apprentice completing his Certificate III in Landscape Construction.
After undertaking high school work experience with us 18 months ago, Owen came on board and joined our team – we felt he was a great fit, demonstrated eagerness to learn the trade, and he has proved our inkling right! Since then, Owen has obtained both his First Aid and Traffic Control certificates and is currently completing his forklift training. Next goals: obtaining his HR truck licence and machinery/plant tickets.
Owen states he enjoys the variety of his work and learning from senior colleagues, saying: “It’s given me the opportunity to be involved in some awesome projects from start to finish and to learn from more experienced team members who bring a broad range of skills. It’s great to be part of the team at GCL.”
Owen is passionate about landscaping as it allows him to be part of projects that benefit communities while experiencing the satisfaction of seeing spaces come to life. His advice to future apprentices is “to seek work experience, show up, be reliable, ask questions, and take pride in your work”.
Looking to the future, Owen aspires to expand his skills and licences, with career goals of becoming a Plant Operator or Project Manager. He also hopes to one day mentor younger apprentices, passing on the same support and opportunities he has valued at Growth Civil Landscapes.
With the drive and attitude Owen displays day in day out, we have no doubt he will succeed! Keep up the great work Owen – it’s a pleasure to have you on our team!
